Press Release: Nurses From Sweden's Premier Plastic Surgery Practice Visit Stuart's Robert N. Cooper, M.D. for Fact Finding

"Robert N. Cooper, M.D. of Stuart and his staff of 50 played host the week of October 6 to two nurses who were sent to the Treasure Coast by their boss, Dr. Carl Troilius of Malmoe, Sweden, to observe Dr. Cooper's practice. Dr. Troilius runs an innovative cosmetic surgery practice in partnership with his wife, Agneta, a dermatologist.

'We were so impressed when we heard about Dr. Cooper that we wanted to come to America to meet him and see his facility,' said Katarina Skallenas, nurse anesthetist for Dr. Carl Troilius, considered Sweden's finest cosmetic surgeon.

Skallenas and her associate Lena Olsson, a laser nurse with Dr. Troilius, first learned in May about Dr. Cooper and his unique facility, Water's Edge Surgery & Laser Center. That's when Dr. Cooper's administrator, Patty Spain, and his director of nursing, Bettina Zicarelli, were invited to speak in Sweden about Dr. Cooper's practice at the First International European Congress for Plastic Surgical Nurses and Assistants, attended by doctors and nurses from around the globe and hosted by Dr. Troilius.

At Water's Edge, Skallenas and Olsson observed the latest in anesthesia methods as well as new surgical techniques designed to provide faster recovery and more rapid resolution of swelling. They also observed the use of the second generation of ultrasonic assisted liposuction and noted ways in which they could use the Water's Edge practice as a model for their own.

'We are getting many good ideas,' said Olsson. 'We are amazed at Dr. Cooper's efficiency, how he manages to see so many patients and yet give each one the time and attention they need. We are very impressed.'

Dr. Cooper is notable for having one of the busiest solo facelift practices in the country.

This visit by nurses from Sweden is just the latest of several by personnel from out-of-town plastic surgery practices since Dr. Cooper's facility opened in May of 1996. Water's Edge is considered a national model for plastic surgery practices because of its state-of-the art equipment and European spa-like recovery facility.
